Proposed amendment to New Zealand's Second Emissions Reduction Plan (2026 to 2030)
Overview
The Government consulted on a formal amendment to the second emissions reduction plan, to reflect our revised approach to reducing agricultural emissions.
As announced, the Government is not progressing with an on-farm emissions pricing system by 2030.
We remain committed to a technology-led approach to reducing emissions, and will leverage market-led schemes that support our farmers to adopt new ways of reducing emissions.
As the discussion document on the proposed amendment to ERP2 outlines, we are confident that the policies and strategies in the second emissions reduction plan, including our revised approach to reducing agricultural emissions, will meet New Zealand’s second emissions budget.
