From 8 July to 17 September 2021, the Ministry for the Environment consulted on a range of options to improve the market governance framework of the New Zealand Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS).

Overview
The NZ ETS is an important tool for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in Aotearoa New Zealand.

We need to improve the current market governance framework to manage risks of misconduct in the NZ ETS and protect NZ ETS users from financial harm.
We sought feedback on proposals to address:
- governance of advice
- governance of trading
- governance of market conduct
- appointing a regulator.
