Have your say
1. What is the current NZ ETS going to do to emissions reductions and removals?
Please write your answer here
i am usure whether we will see big removals in its current state it cheaper to buy land and grow trees like Air New Zealand contact energy and meridian energy have done.Technically i guess it reduces their carbon footprint but doesnt actually reduce their emissions.
Is this a problem? Please write your answer here
eventually there will have to be a cost to all New Zealanders to get them to understand that we all have a part to play in this problem and not simply blame others .

4. If emissions reductions are to be prioritised in the NZ ETS, how could the scheme be changed to achieve this?

not sure. I could see some time ago that where we are was going to happen its obvious because of the money involved.
i do think that overseas entities should NOT be buying land and planting trees purely for carbon farming. It becomes to easy to create a limited liability company permanent forest bankrupt it in 48 years time and walk away.
this needs to be by kiwis for kiwis
there needs to be a balance between what we need (growing trees) and reducing carbon impacts

clearly cost will drive behaviour as it seems nothing else will
