1. What do you think are the most important things to be considered in the development of the emissions reduction plan?

What do you think are the most important things to be considered in the development of the emissions reduction plan?
The urgency at which action needs to be taken. There is no time for postponing or setting back plans. We needed to change yesterday.
I think the promotion of community initiatives are fantastic, for example, the kerbside composting schemes and the desire for a more circular economy, and I think these should take high priority in emission reduction plans.
I also think it's important to consider the impact that advertising and knowledge have on the way the general public behaves, and so I think there needs to be a clear focus on policing advertisements that encourage high carbon emission products or activities, and increasing the accessibility of information regarding high emission products. For example, implementing policies that require all dairy products to clearly display their emission contributions on the label.

2. What new initiatives would you include in an emissions reduction plan for Aotearoa?

Tell us how you and your community will be impacted by the proposals in the Emissions Reduction Plan discussion document
I support the movement towards more EV vehicles in New Zealand, as well as the ideas around encouraging other modes of transport such as public transport or biking. However, I believe further emphasis needs to be placed on encouraging public transport and biking. I think modern biking lanes need to be implemented in all cities in New Zealand and the bus stops and systems throughout the country need to be upgraded. I also fully support the limitation on building new roads.
I think further emphasis on native regenerative planting throughout the country needs to occur also. This can be alongside rivers, in agricultural streams (this also helps clean the waterways), and through as much of the country as possible.
There needs to be much stricter policies around agricultural practices, but this needs to coincide with governmental/scientific support to farmers on how to best achieve reduced emissions economically.
I also think that there needs to be stricter regulations put on New Zealand's 2 leading supermarket chains to discourage imported food and consequently allow a more localised food system to arise.

3. What do you see are the main opportunities and impacts of emissions reduction policies in Aotearoa?

What do you see are the main opportunities and impacts of emissions reduction policies in Aotearoa?
To enforce and encourage the reduction of New Zealand's emissions so that we become carbon neutral as soon as possible. The opportunities created should hopefully be centered around more communal, circular lifestyles that result in reduced emissions and a happier nation.
