I'm a tech entrepeneur. I'd like us to re-think private and public transport.
Instead of switching everyone to electric vehicles (which is a good idea) I'd like to suggest we implement Transport as a Service.
Electric vehicles require a lot of carbon to produce and are polluting during mining and manufacture. They won't solve congestion. They won't help people that can't drive (public transport isn't really an option for most people).
Transport as a Service would mean we would introduce electric passenger vans that pick up and drop off door to door.
We'd use an algorithm that dynamically plans the most efficient routes as we pick up and drop off passengers door to door. While we are starting up and didn't have that many passengers people may need to pre-book using their phones but as usage and the number of vans picked up then pre-book time could be shortened. Perhaps to minutes in busy areas and at busy times.
I reckon we could switch people from thinking the need a car to using a door to door Transport as a Service option. And I could do it if I had some help from Government. Or at least set up a trial.
